Philosophy of Education

Philosophy is that wisdom that comes from a true source of truth, is entertained by the brain and interpreted into that which one’s own mind can put into perspective and can understand according to the dictates of that one person’s experiences, beliefs and thoughts.

As facts are given, they will be given as a basis of what is thought to be truth. If that truth is science, then all truth is based upon science. If that truth is philosophy alone, then all truth is based upon philosophy. If it is on experience, then all truth is based upon experience.

What is the basis of all truth? Christians believe that all truth is based upon the infallible word of God. Why do we believe this? It is because, we believe, God has led us to this truth by his Spirit and a supernatural grasp of spiritual knowledge. The carnal mind compares carnal things with carnal things, but the Holy Ghost compares spiritual things with spiritual things: 1 Cor. 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

How do we know these things are spiritual things? By faith we know this. It is by faith, also, that the philosopher believes that philosophy is the answer to all truth. It is by faith that the scientist believes that science is the final answer. It is by faith that the existentialist believes that experience is the final authority of all things.

So, why should we quibble about faith? It is all by faith. But the Christian faith is a saving faith and a faith that gives us hope in the word of God as inspired by God and as infallible through God’s inspiration and preservation.

Thus, our philosophy of education at Antioch Baptist College is based upon what we can glean from God’s perfect word. All other philosophies are carnal, temporal, and fallible. This is why Paul told Timothy in 2 Tim. 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
