The Effect of New Versions on Theology
August 29, 2001 B Bibliology - Lesson
#13
Pastor Ronnie Wolfe
We must be careful in this area, because some of the examples
that I will give in this lesson may be substantiated in other portions of
scripture. But just the idea that these sections of scripture are left out is
enough to warrant concern and vigil on our parts concerning new versions of the
Bible.
- THE DOCTRINE OF THE GODHEAD
- 1 John 5:7-8 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the
Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are
three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the
blood: and these three agree in one. (KJV)
- 1 John 5:7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit, the water and
the blood; and the three are in agreement (NIV)
THE DOCTRINE OF THE CHURCH
Rev. 2:15 B So hast thou also
them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
The words A which thing I hate@
is left out in NIV and others. This lessens the strength of the message here
by eliminating these words.
The Nicolaitans had a church government that ruled the people.
THE DOCTRINE OF ANGELS
Luke 22:42 B And there
appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
This is completely left out of the New King James Version of the Bible
THE DOCTRINE OF SATAN
Luke 4:8 B And Jesus answered
and said unto him, Get thee behind Me, Satan;: for it is written,
Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve. (KJV)
Luke 4:8 B Jesus answered,
A It is written:
> Worship the Lord your God and
serve him only.@
THE DOCTRINE OF THE BIBLE
Mark 16:19-20
- Completely eliminated in the NIV, NASV, and NKJV
- Many doctrines are mentioned in these verses
John 7:53 - 8:11
- Completely eliminated in the NIV, NASV
- Many doctrines are mentioned in these verses
THE DOCTRINE OF ESCHATOLOGY
Matthew 25:13
- Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein
the Son of man cometh. (KJV)
- Matthew 25:13 B Matt 25:13
"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour (NIV).
Romans 14:10
- But why dost thou judge thy brother? Or why dost thou set at nought
thy brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
(KJV)
- You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on
your brother? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat. (NIV)
THE DOCTRINE OF SALVATION
Revelation 21:24
- And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light
of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
(KJV)
- The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will
bring their splendor into it (NIV)
1 Corinthians 5:7
- Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye
are unleavned. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. (KJV)
- Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast-as
you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. (NIV)
THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST
John 3:13
- And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from
heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
- No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from
heaven-the Son of Man. (NIV)
John 1:18
- No man hath seen God at any time; the Only Begotten Son, which
is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. (KJV)
- No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the
Father's side, has made him known. (NIV)
1 Corinthians 16:22
- If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema
Maranatha. (KJV)
- If anyone does not love the Lord-a curse be on him. Come, O Lord! (NIV)
CONCLUSION
The names Lord, Jesus and Christ are eliminated from the new versions of
the Bible many, many times.
